It’s all change for researchers with Pure

Researchers will see a number of changes in the New Year with the implementation of Pure, our new research information system.

From mid-January 2016, researchers will deposit their outputs in Pure rather than ePrints, which will continue as the University’s repository for web discoverability.

This development will help the University comply with new HEFCE Open Access policies which, from 1 April 2016, require researchers to deposit journal articles and conference proceedings at the point of acceptance rather than on publication.

Key information held in Pure will be drawn from our finance, student and human resources systems, providing academic staff and postgraduate students with a comprehensive overview of their personal research information. This improved level of transparency and accessibility should enhance opportunities for research networking and expertise discovery.

Pure will also drive updates to academic web pages, produce customised CVs and store esteem indicators and impact-related evidence in a consistent form. In addition, the system will be used for the University’s preparations and submission for the next Research Excellence Framework.

Pure is simple to use but a range of support will be available including Faculty-based experts, comprehensive training sessions and online user-guides, details of which will be provided on a dedicated website.

To facilitate the implementation of Pure, ePrints log-in will be disabled ahead of the launch with users redirected to Pure after a four-day switchover. Outputs displayed on researchers’ web pages are likely to be frozen throughout January.
