For all the staff and students who are attending the Christmas Lights Switch On event this Monday 16 November, we’ve compiled all that you need to know.
Schedule:
- From 16:00 visit the Christmas Market to stock up on your Christmas presents and soak up the atmosphere with music from ‘The University of Southampton Brass Band’, Surge Radio will also be keeping you entertained
- At 18:00 the lights are switched on, followed by live music from ‘The Big Town Boppers’
- The market will remain open until 19:30. Following this, The Bridge and The Stags will have a selection of live music to keep you entertained until late
What refreshments will be on offer?
- If you pre-registered for a complimentary drink you will be able to exchange your Eventbrite ticket for a glass of mulled wine or mulled cider from 16:00 in either The Bridge, The Stags or either of the two Outside Bars – one in the Redbrick Square and one on the crescent in-front of Building 40
- The Bridge and The Stags will also be operating as cash-bars until late
- There will be a selection of festive food stalls within the Christmas Market
Dress code:
- The stage will be located on the grass area in-front of Building 40, we recommend you wear appropriate footwear due to poor conditions particularly on the grass
- There is also a promise of snow so make sure you wrap up warmly
Children:
This event is for the staff and students of the University of Southampton, the event gets very busy so due to Health and Safety concerns it is not possible for children to attend.
We recommend that staff and students with children bring them along to our Family Christmas on Campus event on 21 December.

Please note that the University photographer will be taking photographs at this event for use by the University in print and web publications.
Don’t forget:
- Your ticket, you will not be able to claim your free drink without it. Either print a copy or have the QR code available on your smart phone for scanning
- Your University staff/student ID
- Cash to spend in the market or for further drinks
