Jailbreak 2015: How far will they get?

48 teams, comprised of 113 students, have set off this morning from Highfield Campus, in a race to travel as far as possible from the Student’s Union in just 36 hours, with absolutely no money in their pockets. They have already collectively raised over £9,500.

Jailbreak, organised by Student Fundraising committee RAG, alongside student enterprise society Enactus, is a yearly event which encourages students to raise money for charity whilst racing across the globe. The winning team is that which has achieved the greatest displacement as the final whistle sounds, at 21:00 on Sunday.

Each team is required to initially raise at least £150. All money raised will be shared between Enactus Southampton’s social enterprise projects, and RAG’s three core charities – Make-A-Wish Foundation UK, Student Minds, and The Red Lipstick Foundation.

Last year’s event saw 71 participants reaching as far Warsaw, Southern France, Germany and Scotland. The winning team – Pete Johnson and Aaron Shakides – managed to clock a whopping 3,295km, ending up in Cyprus.  The event raised an incredible sum of just over £7,000.

Friends and family can follow each team’s progress through our online tracker. SUSUtv will also be broadcasting a live show this morning.
