Students are settling into state-of-the-art facilities after the refurbishment of the Electronics and Computer Science (ECS) undergraduate labs for computing and electrical and electronic engineering (EEE).
The £4m project, funded by the University and the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE), has scaled up the capacity and capabilities of three laboratories and invested £1.5m in advanced test, design build and computing equipment to support the broad range of degree programmes.
The computing and EEE labs on the second and third floors of Building 59 are now larger and completely open plan, while a 300m2 project lab facility has been developed for senior undergraduate and MSc students in Building 16.
The improved EEE facilities have been configured with bespoke benches and computer science, foundation year and physics students are also benefiting from the facility.
Professor Nick Jennings, Head of Electronics and Computer Science (ECS), said:
“Our new flexible facilities are preparing students for industries of the future. It is great to see students making full use of these excellent facilities as we maintain our status as one of the best places in the world to study electronics and electrical engineering, computer science and IT.”
