In the last year, Santander Universities has supported a range of activities to support student and staff mobility through scholarships, internships and project funding.
Fourteen students received Santander funding to support a period studying abroad as part of their undergraduate degrees. A further twenty students took part in the Santander Universities SME Internship programme, co-ordinated by the Careers and Employability Service, which placed students with employers across the UK.
A total of fifteen Santander scholarships were awarded to students from Latin America, the USA and Spain who are currently enrolled in Foundation, undergraduate and Masters degrees. Eight staff received awards of up to £5,000 towards 12-month collaborative projects with Latin American partners in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico and Peru.
In addition, Santander Universities also contributed funding towards the work of the University’s E-Languages group, and the Centre for Mexico-Southampton (MEXSU).
Senior staff from Santander Universities UK visited the University to attend the launch of Mexico Week 2015. They also took the opportunity to host an event at the Highfield campus branch for staff and students who had been awarded a scholarship or research funding. Santander representatives included Nicholas Davies and Duncan Craze, University Branch Manager.
Nicholas commented:
“Supporting the University of Southampton in this way is really important to Santander Universities. We are delighted that the funding we provide can lead to so many different opportunities for students and staff. It is also really rewarding for us to actually meet those who have benefited and to hear their stories and the impact that their experiences have had.”
