The new Institutional Research unit (IR) is part of Strategy, Planning and Analytics in Professional Services.
In order to achieve its mission, IR brings together team members from other departments such as Student and Academic Administration, to provide data and insights that help the University make well-evidenced decisions.
The team provides several core services to colleagues including:
- market intelligence, primary research (such as focus groups and surveys with students),
- data accessibility (making data easily available to colleagues across the University),
- student experience and management information (providing analysis on all aspects of the student journey)
- portfolio development (strategic advice on the development of the University’s subject areas),
- horizon scanning (helping the University to anticipate and respond to future risks or opportunities in the higher education sector).
Pro Vice-Chancellor Education, Professor Alex Neill, says:
“We have been considering for some time how the University might make better use of evidence in order to make truly ‘data-driven’ decisions. I’m delighted to see the Institutional Research team take shape and look forward to seeing colleagues across the University make use of the service.”
