Social Sciences launched the new China Research Centre (CRC) on Thursday 26 November at the Turner Sims.
The mission of the Centre is to bring together researchers focusing on social and environmental change in China.
It is an inter-disciplinary centre based in the Faculty of Social, Human and Mathematical Sciences (FSHMS), with the aim to create a meeting point and portal for showcasing the research of faculty members, our PhD students, visiting scholars and visiting PhD students who are researching social and environmental change in China.
There are six research themes within the Centre: Ageing and The Life Course, International Relations and Governance, Migration and Labour Markets, Population and Health, Economy and Social Protection, and Environment and Sustainable Cities.
The launch took place on the same day as the opening day of the conference: ‘The Evolution of Social Protection: China and Europe Compared’, a two day event led by Professor Traute Meyer of Sociology in conjunction with the Confucius Institute.
Speakers from the UK, the Netherlands, Germany and China analysed the evolution of social protection system in China and Europe since 2000, focusing in particular on the role of labour market related polices and pension policies. The comparative studies brought much insight into the future development of the subjects.
