The University and Students’ Union have been working together to agree a specification for an upgrade to The Cube.
The refurbishment will provide an upgrade of seating, and writing surfaces, to benefit the University for the teaching day and Students’ Union for screening of films and other events.
A stage will be created which will mean that there will be good facilities for bands and other music events. There will also be a number of minor changes to better facilitate use of the room for lecturing and student activities. The refurbishment is being funded jointly between the University and Students’ Union.
Ben Franklin, Union President, said:
‘I’m really glad that we’re improving The Cube and making it into a more genuinely multi-purpose space. The improvements to seating have been a long time coming for Union Films and other student groups, and the introduction of the stage creates new opportunities for performing arts groups, external music acts and other student groups to make use of the space for a variety of purposes. This is an exciting investment and, I hope, the beginning of lots of positive change in the Union.’
