We are delighted to announce our newest University Strategic Research Group (USRG) in Monitoring of Engineered and Natural Systems Using Sensors (MENSUS).
MENSUS leverages and exploits interdisciplinary expertise from the University to tackle challenges across many sectors related to monitoring of equipment health, systems and natural processes.
Topics include:
- Sensing in complex and harsh environments
- Wireless and optical communications for distributed and intelligent networks
- Challenges of signal processing and data handling
- Large-scale sensor deployment
- Green energy harvesting for remote sensing
- Big data analytics and system performance prediction
- Business models and cultures in a highly sensed world
This group was funded as a result of the open call for new USRGs which ran over the summer. This year we received 14 applications, and as in previous years quality was high.
Pro-Vice Chancellor Research & Enterprise, Professor Judith Petts had oversight of this competition and notes:
“Once again an imaginative but highly relevant group of interests across campus has come together to capitalise on interdisciplinary opportunities in a strategically important area.”
The first event for MENSUS will be an internal launch on Wednesday 6 January, in 19/3011. The programme will centre on a series of elevator-style pitches from across the research themes of the USRG. Lunch will be available from 13:15, with talks beginning at 14:00.
Registration for the event is via our Eventbrite page. Please do feel free to share this among interested colleagues.
For more information on this USRG, if you wish to nominate yourself for one of our launch event elevator pitches, or if you wish to join the mailing list please email Jo Corsi, USRG Coordinator.
