Two students from the University – Vu Dinh Nguyen and Bilal Atie – alongside four other teammates from Glasgow, Warwick and Babes-Bolyai University in Romania, have beat 20 other teams to success in this year’s Code for Good event.
Code for Good is a program sponsored by J.P. Morgan which involves collaborating with coders to develop innovative technology solutions in 24 hours for non-profit organisations.
The winning team designed a web-based mobile application for the charity organisation Age UK, which will improve and automate the process of matching a volunteer with an elderly person.
Team member Bilal Atie commented,
“It was shocked to win the competition, even though we made sure that our technology tackled all the challenges that Age UK are currently facing. I encourage any student to get involved with this kind of competition – it’s a great way to showcase their talents, and utilise them for a good cause.”
The technology will be implemented by Age UK within the next few months throughout the country.
