A number of email accounts have been sent a scam email claiming to offer students access to a ‘grant’.
The email asks students to enter many personal details including financial information. If you have received this email please do not click on the link. This is not from a University email address.
Always be cautious of emails that link you off to external websites, and don’t get caught out by ‘phishing’ scams which often link to sites which prompt you to enter your username, password or other personal details.
If you have received a phishing email and have given any personal or bank details please carry out the following steps:
- Contact your bank to report any or possible fraudulent activity immediately and inform them that you have given your personal / financial information to an unauthorised 3rd party.
- Ask them to immediately stop any further unauthorised payments that may be taken from your account.
- Change any banking passwords and security questions and keep an eye on your banking activity.
- Contact ActionFraud for further advice and to report the incident on 0300 123 2040.
For more information search the iSolutions website for ‘phishing’, and if you’re ever suspicious of an email, please contact ServiceLine.
