Campaign runners announced

A team of 20 runners, made up of staff and students, have been chosen to run in the 2016 ABP Southampton Half Marathon on 24 April to raise funds for the campaign for the Centre for Cancer Immunology.

The campaign is an official charity partner of the Half Marathon.  Last November, we asked staff and students to register their interest in running the race in aid of the new Centre and helping to raise awareness for this great cause.

The campaign team were delighted to receive interest in the opportunity from over 70 people. The chosen runners include:

Professor Adam Wheeler – former Deputy Vice-Chancellor

Professor Peter Smith –  Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor International

Professor Tim Elliott – Director of the Centre for Cancer Immunology

Professor Rachel Mills – Head of Ocean and Earth Science

The group is also made up of staff from the Cancer Sciences research team, Professional Services staff from areas such as Finance, Human Resources, Communications and Marketing and Student Services, as well as students from a wide variety of academic disciplines.

The group have a Just Giving team page available where individuals can choose to donate in support of our fantastic staff and students, some of which are taking on the challenge for the first time and others who are looking to achieve their best time yet.

If you didn’t get a place, you can still run for the campaign and we are pleased that many of you have already pledged to do so. If you are already registered for the Half Marathon or 10k, or thinking about running, please do join our team of runners in aid of the new Centre.

All runners will receive a special campaign runner t-shirt to wear, along with support and encouragement on the day of the race

Please contact Katherine Carter for more information on how you can get involved.
