Fidel – a musical by the people for the people

The Turner Sims Concert Hall will host a musical event with a Cuban twist on Sunday 24 January, with the audience voting which original songs will become part of a new musical about Fidel Castro.

Fidel the Musical

The ‘X-Factor’ style event features songs written by music students from across the UK, including the Southampton area, with live voting by the audience and a professional panel of musicians and songwriters to determine which ones should become part of ‘Fidel, The Musical’.

One of the judges, top Cuban guitarist Ahmed Dickinson, will finish off the evening with a special performance.

Dr Denise Baden, Associate Professor in the Southampton Business School and co-ordinator of the project, said:

“We want everyone to have a fun evening and learn a little about Cuba in the process/ We have some fantastic entries so please join us for a lively event and the opportunity to help decide which of the excellent finalists will go forward to be performed as part of this new musical on the life of Fidel Castro and the Cuban revolution.”

Tickets for this gala event are £10 for adults, £8 for under 18s. A free Cuban cocktail/Cuban beer is included in the adult price and soft drinks and light refreshments are available for the under 18s. The bar is also open for extra drinks. Doors open at 16:30 for a 17:00 start.
