The Academic Skills Hub has a range of resources available to help you with your dissertation. Staff in the Academic Skills Hub can help you to find the resource that will best meet your needs, be that an interactive online tutorial, book or e-book, video or leaflet. You can find them on level 2 in the Hartley Library, just past the IT Help desk. The hub is open Monday to Friday: 10:00 – 12:00 in the morning and in the afternoon between 14:00 – 16:00.
Visit the LibGuide pages for information about resources related to each stage of your dissertation. From the first planning stages, to reading, searching for information and writing through to proof-reading the final draft, you will find resources to help you work on the skills that you need to help you succeed.
See the suggestions for useful books related to planning and writing a dissertation selected from the library’s collections on their resources page. Visit the hub and look at copies on the book display or go to the Academic Skills Collection to borrow a book (you will find it at the head of the stairs on level 3 of the Hartley Library).
Try one of the modules in the Skills4Study interactive resource. These will help you hone and develop your study skills at your own pace. Modules are available for reading and note making, writing, critical thinking, referencing and plagiarism.
Or why not come to one of the library-run bite-sized training sessions, book your place online via the events calendar on http://library.soton.ac.uk/home (look for the box “Improve your results 2016 … come along to our help sessions!”) or just drop-in on the day.
- Dissertation: Getting started! (note: the focus of this session is on finding literature and information for your dissertation)
