The University of Southampton is pleased to again host a week-long programme of activities to mark International Women’s Day. Every year on the 8th March, the university comes together to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievement of women.
Thousands of events are held throughout the world both to inspire women and celebrate achievements.
Here at Southampton University, we will be celebrating International Women’s Week (IWW) from Monday 5 March to Sunday 13 March. All IWW events are open to everyone; including the local community – to both students and staff at the University, women and men, and are free of charge unless stated otherwise. Events range from discussions of women in science, art exhibitions to talks from Sharon Strawbridge (Senior Lecturer at University of Exeter) alongside Professor Sir Christopher Snowden (Southampton University Vice Chancellor).
Professor Sir Christopher Snowden said:
“The University is extremely proud to be celebrating International Women’s Week. A wide range of people across the University have worked hard to produce an interesting, stimulating and diverse range of events, led by both staff and students. We hope you will be able to get involved and be inspired.”
The international theme this year is ‘Pledge for parity’, and aims to bring everyone – men and women – together to help achieve gender equality.
