Joining a society at university is fantastic if you are passionate about a cause or pastime, want to make new friends, or want to try something new.
However, being an active society member is also looked upon favourably by employers.
Participating in societies can demonstrate desirable transferable skills to employers, especially if you hold a position of responsibility.
For instance, Presidents of societies exhibit leadership qualities, organisational skills, and enthusiasm to motivate other society members.
Additionally, Treasurers display financial acumen and responsibility in handling society funds reliably.
These are all invaluable skills, and being able to include these on your CV will help you to stand out from the crowd and could help you to secure the career that you want.
Society membership can show that you are a motivated, proactive individual who is keen to get involved with sociable activities outside of your degree.
With over 300 societies and groups, the Students’ Union has something on offer to suit every interest, and most importantly to help build important skills.
