Southampton graduate Georgina Abraham has been recognised for a fantastic achievement by winning ‘Best Student Contribution to a Small to Medium-Sized Employer’ at the National Undergraduate Employability (NUE) Awards in London, earlier this month.
Georgina spent last summer working as a Research and Development intern for Taragenyx, a position supported by the University’s Excel Southampton Internship Programme.
Over a period of less than two months Georgina transformed the formulation of Taragenyx’s orthopaedic implant coating for hip and knee replacements, making it more competitive, streamlined and effective. Her work was a real breakthrough for the organisation and could potentially go on to prevent many thousands of patients from painful complications from surgery in the future.
Tom Davie, Business Development Manager, who worked closely with Georgina said:
“Georgina made an outstanding contribution to Taragenyx during her internship. She fully deserves this exceptional accolade.”
Not only did Georgina win the Excel Southampton Award for Creativity in September 2015, but this led to her excelling above over 400 nominations to win one of the NUE Awards.
Speaking of her award, Georgina said:
“I am thrilled to have won this award, and it feels great to be recognised for the hard work that goes into internships. I learnt so much about the biotechnology industry, as well as where I would like to take my career in the future. I am so grateful to the Excel Southampton team for their support, and would recommend that everyone completes an internship through the programme.”
