Two lime trees adjacent to Building 37 are to be removed due to disease on Sunday, 28 February resulting in the closure of the road alongside the building for the whole day.
A recent inspection of the two lime trees discovered they are affected with a form of Phytophthora disease. The name Phytophthora is derived from Greek and literally means ‘plant destroyer’.
Due to the extent of the tree damage and the potential health and safety risks posed by the declining trees, and following liaising with Southampton City Council’s Tree Preservation Officer, the University was instructed to remove both trees at its earliest convenience.
The road will be closed to motorists, cyclists and pedestrians. The closures are detailed in the image below.
The two limes trees will be replaced by suitable trees at or near their present location by spring 2017.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused during the period of tree works. Further enquiries can be directed to Martin Wyss, Landscape Services Manager.
