Staff and students are invited to a reading by award-winning fiction writer Shena Mackay, the guest for ‘Writers in Conversation’ this evening 29 February at 19:30 in the Nuffield Theatre’s Kitchen.
The winner of several awards including the Scottish Arts Council Book Award, Mackay has also been shortlisted for the Booker, the Orange Prize, and the Whitbread prize. Her most recent book, Dancing on the Outskirts: Selected Stories, is published by Virago, which is also in the process of publishing her previous work as Virago Classics. Mackay lives in Southampton.
The event is organised by the University’s English Department in association with Nuffield Theatre. It will also feature a Q&A hosted by Carole Burns, the University’s Head of Creative Writing. Admission is free to students and staff, and £5 to others.
In ‘Writers in Conversation’, students have an important opportunity to hear writers talk about their craft, and their careers as writers. This helps students learn about how to improve their own writing, and how to build careers in publishing or other writing industries.
