Revising for examinations can be quite a stressful time for students. The University and your Students’ Union has a number of events and support services to help you through this stressful period.
Your Personal Academic Tutor – your primary point of contact with advice and guidance on academic work and progress.
Students’ Union Advice Centre – the team provides students with free, independent, confidential advice and representation in a friendly, relaxed environment. The Advice Centre can be found on Level 3 of Building 40 (above The Stag’s) on the Highfield Campus.
Nightline – the listening service run by students, operates every evening in term time from 20:00-08:00.
Peer Support – talk with fellow students in person about whatever is worrying you.
First Support – the University service if you ever find yourself in a crisis.
Residences Support Service – available to help all student residents between 18:00 and 08:00 every day of the week at all Halls of Residence sites.
The Chaplaincy is also there to support you. The doors are open and the kettle on at the Chaplaincy building at 41a university road from 09:00-16:30 each day during the week. You can just drop in to relax, work or just get a cup of tea.
Also if you don’t fancy cooking through the exam period, the Chaplaincy runs a pasta night each Monday evening from 19:00-20:30 and a soup lunch on a Thursday from 12:30. It is also a good place to revise when the library is overflowing and you want to get some peace and quiet. Finally and importantly you don’t have to be “religious” to use the Chaplaincy. They are here for people of all faiths and none.
Lastly, there will be a number of workshops arranged by the Enabling Services to help you cope with exam stress. These include:
- Understanding & Managing Exam Anxiety Workshops
- The Art of Calm: Practicing Relaxation Workshops
- Managing Exam Stress & Relaxation – “Uni-Life” Workshops in Halls
Further details can be found here. You can also meet with an Enabling Services Advisor, to find out more about the support available, at the drop-in sessions which run from 13:00-15:00, Monday-Friday (during term time) and Monday/Wednesday/Friday outside of term.
You are more than…Your degree. Your thesis. Your portfolio. Your placement.
As always, your Students’ Union have a number of events running throughout the exam period to support you, starting from 5 May 2016:
- A Chill Out Hub will be set up in the Concourse where students can relax, play games and enjoy.
- Yoga and relaxation classes will be held to help students de-stress and re-focus.
- Meet the farm animals: In the past few years we have had animals from donkeys to ducks.
Keep on the lookout for the latest timetable on www.blogs.susu.org.
We wish you the best of luck in your upcoming exams, and we hope these support services will help keep you going through the next few weeks.
