Navigating your way around EU funding opportunities

There are many funding opportunities available from Europe and, with over 15 per cent of the University’s research income originating from Brussels, the EU plays a huge part in enabling the development of our research.

To help staff involved in research take advantage of these opportunities, the University has partnered with Southern England Local Partners (SELP) and the UK Research Office (UKRO).

These memberships give us access to:

  • extensive advice about all aspects of EU funding
  • networking opportunities at the European Commission
  • office and reception facilities for partner meetings in Brussels

One example of where EU funding is helping develop our research is the IDEAL consortium involving Professors Karen Lillycrop and Mark Hanson, who are highlighted in a Universities for Europe UUK campaign.

The IDEAL consortium consists of 16 institutes from eight European countries, which are collaborating to investigate how early life conditions produce epigenetic changes and play a role in ageing and the risk of chronic disease.
