University highlighted for innovative approach to mental health support

The University has been highlighted in local and national media for its innovative approach to mental health support, focusing on early intervention and prevention.

In 2014, the University designed a new strategic architecture for mental health support, creating multiple opportunities for students to seek support before requiring counselling.

The opportunities include daily drop-in sessions, a range of targeted drop-in workshops, and support from our Residences Support team for students in Halls and those living in private rented accommodation.

Whilst our students still have access to counselling, there is also now more information for students about a range of alternative support measures.

We also work in partnership with our local NHS practitioners, who offer a ‘Steps to Wellbeing’ service for students, and colleagues within the Students’ Union, who organise peer-to-peer support services and organise awareness campaigns around mental health and stigma attached to it.

Students and staff can find out more information about the University’s support for mental health and wellbeing on the University website.
