Horizon Scanning: new bulletin to help University prepare for future

The first edition of a new monthly bulletin, prepared by the Horizon Scanning team within Institutional Research, has been launched this month.

In this edition, the publication asks whether Chinese students, particularly at PGT level, will keep choosing to study abroad – including at Southampton – for their higher education.

The bulletin also asks whether the predicted changes in China’s economy, demographics, domestic higher education system and trans-national education will affect the number of Chinese students wanting to come here and if so, when and how? Which countries are the UK’s main competitors for these students? And what responses might the University of Southampton consider?

You can find the bulletin here.

Horizon Scanning aims to help the University anticipate and prepare for the future of the higher education sector. Each monthly bulletin will focus on a different issue which could have an impact on our current activities and/or provide opportunities for us to consider.

The Horizon Scanning team also provides other foresight services relevant to the development of University strategy, such as scenario planning workshops. One example of these was a workshop to help University leaders identify how they might best respond to a range of outcomes from the 2015 general election.
