Professor Simon Cox has been appointed as the University’s new Chief Information Officer (CIO).
The role is permanent and took effect from 1 April 2016.
The CIO will play a key strategic role in building an information-driven University ensuring that our information is accessible, useful and accurate. The role will also be responsible for ensuring our IT and its associated architecture, systems and services support and enable our business.
Reacting to his new appointment, Professor Cox said:

I look forward to working with all staff across the University to help deliver our strategic objectives and make our information accessible, useful and accurate along with ensuring we have the IT systems and architecture necessary to fulfil our ambitions.”
Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sir Christopher Snowden said:
“Simon’s enthusiasm and broad based background in computing, enterprise and academic delivery make him extremely well placed to lead the University’s information and IT strategy, working with iSolutions to deliver key services around our campuses.
“His background as an Associate Dean, Chief Scientist of a spin-out and distinguished academic ideally position him as Chief Information Officer to understand both the perspective of the user and the challenges for service delivery.”
