Lovers of jazz are invited to a free lunchtime concert with legendary saxophonist Evan Parker at Turner Sims, on Tuesday 19 April at 12:00.
Presented in association with the Music Department, Evan Parker comes to the city as part of a European tour organised jointly with the Europe Jazz Network’s ‘Take the Green Train‘ initiative.
A project with musicians touring in different countries, choosing the most ecological means of transport, the most efficient route, stopping for concerts, lectures and workshops and using sustainability best practices, Evan and the tour producer Graham McKenzie are undertaking the whole tour by train.
One of Europe’s most renowned saxophonists, Evan is revered and admired for his pioneering approach to jazz and improvised music. The saxophonist has developed a remarkable technique that allows him to build a personal soundscape that absorbs and mesmerises.
This promises to be a richly rewarding musical experience, addressing environmental sustainability in the jazz community from the perspective of events organisers and artists.
