University colleagues – particularly early career researchers – are encouraged to attend a welcome reception and panel discussion on Tuesday, 19 April exploring themes from Allegra Goodman’s Intuition, the book selected as the focal point for ‘One Book, One Southampton’ during the 2016-17 academic year.
Hosted by the Students’ Union and the Faculty of Medicine’s Centre for Human Development Stem Cells and Regeneration, the panel discussion Integrity, ambition and delusion in the pursuit of science starts at 16.00 in Room 1007, Building 67 (Nightingale Building) on Highfield Campus.
The panel comprises:
Allegra Goodman – Author of Intuition, a novel about faith and doubt in science
Professor Tim Elliott – Professor of Experimental Medicine, Director of the new and prestigious Centre for Cancer Immunology and currently the University’s Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research)
Professor Andrea Russell – Professor of Physical Electrochemistry, Chemistry Director of Programmes and co-ordinator of the popular ‘Jekyll and Hyde: Ethics in Science’ module
Dr Elselijn Kingma – Lecturer in Philosophy with a PhD in the history and philosophy of science from Cambridge and NIH postdoctoral training in research ethics

The panel discussion precedes Allegra’s public lecture entitled ‘INTUITION: a Novel about Faith and Doubt in Science’ taking place at 18:00 in Building 67 (Nightingale Building) on the University’s Highfield Campus followed by a book signing from 19.30.
