View the Mercury Transit of the Sun with Astrosoc

The University Astrosoc is running an afternoon event to allow the public, including staff and students, to view the Mercury Transit through their solar telescopes from 13:00 until 18:00 on Monday 9 May 2016.

Transit of Mercury across the Sun - 9 May 2016
Transit of Mercury across the Sun – 9 May 2016

This is the day that Mercury transits the Sun and you are invited to look through one of the telescopes set up at floor level outside the Physics and Astronomy, Building 46 on the Highfield Campus. There may also be access to the roof observatory telescopes, on the roof (5th floor of B46).

Please see here for more information and to register for this event.

If you would like to come along and look through the Astrosoc solar telescope then please register your interest for a specific time slot – this is just so we have an idea of the number of people coming – don’t worry if you want to come at a different time on the day, that is fine, we just want to have an idea of numbers on the day.

Please note that if it is cloudy and/or raining, so that the sun cannot be seen then the event will be cancelled.
