What will the building be used for?

The building will include a 250 seat lecture theatre, a range of seminar and teaching rooms, independent study space, a computer suite and a café.

The facility will be a central resource for all of the University’s faculties, featuring flexible spaces for group learning and independent study. It will be comprised of two wings reaching a maximum height of seven storeys and will be located on Salisbury Road, next to the bus interchange.

Why is the University building the new centre?

In order to maintain its world-leading position, the University must continue to invest in high quality teaching and learning space.

In recent years there has been an increased demand for independent study space, where students can learn individually or in small groups. The new purpose-built centre reacts to this demand and has been designed to meet the needs of the 21st Century student.

Improving Salisbury Road

The University has also received planning approval for landscaping improvements to Salisbury Road, to introduce a shared space design that complements the surrounding campus landscaping and provides an attractive surrounding area for the new building.

When will works begin?

Preparatory work will commence in July, with the building scheduled to open in 2019.

Staff and students will be kept up to date throughout the scheme via SUSSED. Further details, including progress updates and imagery, will be available on the University website.
