The Year in Employment is a new placement programme being launched for eligible undergraduate students.

You are responsible for sourcing a placement but we offer plenty of support. Placements usually last 12 months and must fulfill our Learning Outcomes. Placements can be UK or internationally based although we do encourage you to contact us early if you’re considering a placement outside the UK.

There are many organisations and placement roles on offer. It can be difficult to decide which roles to target but we can help you through this process.

Focus on the quality of your applications rather than the quantity for the best chance of success. However be open-minded and don’t put all of your hopes on a single job. There are plenty of opportunities right for you!

As a starting point, MyCareer, the University’s career platform, has lots of suitable opportunities. However, you can complete your own research and use your contacts to find your own placement. For example, websites such as Rate my Placement and TARGETjobs advertise a wide range of placements across a range of sectors.

Usually, hiring processes for placements are similar to the graduate recruitment cycle and can include online applications, CVs, psychometric tests, assessment centres and interviews.

The Careers and Employability Service offer a range of workshops and resources to help you navigate these, as well as a Drop-In Service to answer individual queries. You can also meet the Year in Employment team to discuss your options and find out more about the Year in Employment.

Find out more about how we can help you to find a placement by speaking with us at [email protected] or on (0)23 8059 3501.
