Students may be aware that following a national ballot, members of the Universities and Colleges Union (UCU) have voted to take industrial action as part of an ongoing dispute over pay.
The proposed action will affect university campuses across the UK in the form of a two-day strike on Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26 May 2016.
The University of Southampton will endeavour to maintain the excellent education and experience we provide to our students throughout the strike. Our primary concern is that our students are not disadvantaged by this proposed action and that there is minimal disruption to your studies and progression. The University has established processes to manage this type of disruption and will be working hard with your representatives at the Students’ Union and other colleagues to implement contingency plans, so that you can continue with your studies and assessments as planned.
You should continue with your studies and preparations for exams and assessments as normal, including the submission of course work assignments.
Should students still come to exams, lectures and seminars?
Yes, it is expected that students will come to University as normal.
The intention is for the exam timetable to be unaffected by the UCU action. Should there be any variation to your academic schedule you will be notified by your faculty’s Student Office.
Will the University libraries, facilities and resources be open?
It is our intention that all University facilities and resources will be open as usual. Any disruptions to services will be announced via SUSSED.
Please ensure that you check SUSSED for further updates.
