A Year in Employment: What do I need to be aware of?

The Year in Employment is a new placement programme being launched for eligible undergraduate students.

Student finance

Many students report that they hugely enjoyed and benefited from their placement year. There are a few things to be aware of before going out:

  • student finance – for information on tuition fees, loans and additional costs, please see our earlier post
  • exams – to go out on placement as part of the Year in Employment you will need to have passed your year 2 semester 2 exams at the first attempt. You can still go out on placement if you have had to re-sit your first year but there may be student loan implications on this. Do speak with us if this is relevant
  • assessment – The year in Employment is assessed by an end of placement reflective report based on your personal and professional development. You will also be asked to complete a short reflective blog throughout your placement
  • Your placement must be a minimum of 30 weeks (not including annual leave) but most placements are 12 months long

The Year in Employment Team are here to support you through these aspects of the placement and anything else that you’d like to chat about.

If you have any further questions regarding the scheme, please email us at [email protected] or on (0)23 8059 3501.
