Professor Sabu Padmadas, Professor of Demography and Global Health has contributed to a commentary article on the recent developments of the two-child policy in China, which has been published in the Annals of Human Biology
The one-child policy in China had been in place since 1979 and was replaced in October 2015 with the two-child policy of ‘one couple, two children’. This was widely consdered a step forward for the reproductive rights of the Chinese population.
In his commentary, Professor Padmadas questions whether the one-child policy was effective in reducing population numbers, and whether the two-child policy will bring about any meaningful changes to population numbers. You can read the full article here.
