The lively Question Time-style event was chaired by Southampton alumnus, Jason Cowley, editor of the New Statesman. The panel included fellow alumnus Alan Whitehead, MP for Southampton Test, together with James Edwards of Southampton Students for Europe supporting the Remain campaign; with Minister for International Development, Desmond Swayne MP, and Matthew Cowley of Southampton Students for Britain, supporting the Leave campaign.

Questions were posed by members of the audience and the speakers covered a range of key issues relating to the EU, including sovereignty, the impact on higher education, the environment, trade and security.

Students and staff who were unable to attend the debate in person, can now watch it online here.
