The University has recently secured two new Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) awards both with innovative local companies.
Professor Tony Bird from the Faculty of Physical Sciences and Engineering (FPSE), in partnership with Symetrica, is working to embed a design capability for a coded-aperture imaging system for an innovative new gamma-camera system with high-spatial resolution, which will have advanced 3D imaging capability for the field of Nuclear Medicine.
And also in FPSE, Dr Markus Newton is collaborating with Merck Chemicals Ltd to develop mechanical/vibrational energy harvesting devices based on low cost, environmentally friendly materials. Integrated into nanoscale systems to form self-powered devices, they will be a potential game-changer for personal power generation.
Each of these awards is worth £170,000 and will last for two years. The University currently has nine additional live KTP projects.
Knowledge Transfer Partnerships is an Innovate UK programme that enables diverse organisations to improve competitiveness, productivity and performance by accessing knowledge, technology or skills from the UK’s knowledge base, which included universities as well as research and technology organisations.
