UK pension laws require employers to automatically re-enrol workers into a workplace scheme every three years.
The University’s three year auto-enrolment anniversary is approaching, so if you’re not already a member of a University pension scheme you will be enrolled into the National Employment Saving Trust (NEST) from 1 June 2016 if you meet the criteria below:
- you are at least 22 years old and
- you are below state pension age and
- you earn more than £833 p.m. and
- you work in the UK
If you don’t meet these criteria you can still request to join the scheme. More information about automatic re-enrolment can be found on the Pensions Regulator website and on the UK Government’s Pension website.
If you are enrolled but you don’t want to be in a pension scheme you will be able to opt out. You should contact the University Pensions team for information about how to opt out or join.
