Eleven University of Southampton Geography Students have recently been awarded the Geography Employability Ambassador Certificate in recognition for successfully promoting and supporting employability within the Geography degree programme.
The scheme was organised by Dr Brian J. Hracs, with support from the Careers and Employability Service, and students from first and second years from both BA and BSc courses volunteered to take part.
In their role as Employability Ambassador, students have been able to demonstrate a wide number of skills, from project management and event planning to networking and communication skills.
The Employability Ambassadors use a range of tactics, including social media, to promote employability events to their peers and have also begun to plan activities and suggest guest speakers for next academic year.
Dr Hracs commented,
“It has been great working with this group of student ambassadors because they contribute so many fresh ideas and bring so much energy! I think getting the student perspective on employability and having students help to develop and promote events and initiatives has really improved what we are trying to do.”
If you are a Geography student and would like to get involved, or a member of staff who would like to find out more, please contact Dr Hracs.
