Research into physical activity and dementia

The Faculty of Health Sciences is exploring why people with dementia take part in physical activity.

Through the new research project, they hope to better understand what individuals with dementia value about physical activity, as well as the benefits it provides them. Findings will help to inform professionals on how they should promote physical activity programmes for people with dementia.

As part of the project, researchers are looking to interview people with dementia, their friends, relatives and carers, as well as health professionals, researchers or volunteers who work with them, to learn more from their experience of participating in, supporting or designing physical activity interventions for people with dementia.

If you would like to take part in this study (both staff and students are welcome), or to request more information, please contact Ana Carolina Gonçalves by email or call on +44 (0)7561 862 373.

The period for participant recruitment and interview will run until 30 September 2016. Depending upon participants’ preferences, interviews can be conducted face to face, at the Faculty of Health Sciences, at the participant’s home or via Skype/telephone.
