With just over three months to go before the British Art Show 8 (BAS8) opens in Southampton, preparations are well underway for the Show’s arrival on the final leg of its year-long UK tour. A major attraction for all lovers of exciting contemporary art, the British Art Show was last in the city fifteen years ago.
Hosted jointly by the John Hansard Gallery at its Highfield Campus location and Southampton City Art Gallery, BAS8 will be the catalyst for a city-wide series of arts events when it opens on 8 October.
A strong community programme is being developed and organisers hope that as many people as possible across the city and region will engage in arts related activities over the three-month period up to 14 January 2017.
University of Southampton staff and students will have easy access to the Show, with BAS8 artworks on display at the John Hansard Gallery at Highfield, and the City Art Gallery just a short unilink bus ride away.
In 2017, the John Hansard Gallery will be moving to a new city centre location at Studio 144 in Southampton’s Cultural Quarter.
