Changes to Salisbury Road car parks

This summer, changes are being made to the Salisbury Road car parks ahead of preparatory works for the University’s new teaching and learning centre.

Car Park

The new centre will be located on the combined site of the Visitors’ Car Park and Building 58a. Preparatory works include rearranging the surrounding parking infrastructure and a relocation of the Visitors Car Park.

Broadlands Car Park – 4 July – 12 August

We are extending Broadlands Car Park and enhancing the footpath that connects into University Road so that it can also accommodate cyclists. We have already introduced new secure cycle storage at this location, improving our facilities for those cycling to Highfield Campus.

Gower Car Park – 25 July – 19 August

We are rearranging the Gower Car Park to create additional disabled parking bays, and altering traffic flow to create a single entrance and exit point. The works will be completed in phases, with no more than one third of the car park being unavailable at any one time.

From Monday, 15 August, the existing Visitors Car Park will close and its spaces relocated to the Gower Car Park. Gower permit holders will also be able to park in the Upper Nuffield East car park (behind Building 67, Nightingale) from this date.

Those who choose to continue using this car park during works should be aware that construction traffic and activity will be taking place daily.

Salisbury Road works – 25 July – 24 October

During preparatory works a section of Salisbury Road will be reduced to single carriageway to allow access for underground service diversions. Access will be maintained in both directions throughout this time.

Maps for each phase of work can be accessed here. For your safety and the safety of those around you, please observe and obey all advisory signage in the vicinity of construction works at all times.

Staff in possession of a parking permit will have received a notification from the Car Parking team to make them aware of these changes. Visitor car parking will be managed as usual by the Car Parking Team.
