Nuffield theatre has announced a new production entitled: DEDICATION – Shakespeare and Southampton.
The play, written by Nick Dear (Frankenstein with Benedict Cumberbatch, National Theatre) and directed by Samuel Hodges (Director of Nuffield), imagines William Shakespeare on trial where he is questioned about his relationship with patron Henry Wriothesley, the 3rd Earl of Southampton.
Centuries of conjecture have surrounded the pair’s association, calling into question tender poems, financial dependency, attempted revolution and a charge of treason.
DEDICATION will run from Friday 9 September – Saturday 8 October.
