The University, in collaboration with the Ogden Trust, hosted its annual Southampton Schools Physicist of the Year awards last week (Thursday 7 July) to celebrate the talent of exceptional students studying Physics across Southampton’s schools.
Over 50 year 10 and year 12 Physics students from schools in the local area received awards in recognition for their efforts during the year.
Dr Sadie Jones, Outreach Leader in Physics and Astronomy at the University, said:
“This award ceremony is a great opportunity for the students, their parents and teachers to celebrate their success and also get a taster of what Physics at University is like.”
In addition to the awards, there was a Supernova Extravaganza! show presented by PhD student Chris Frohmaier. Chris had several exciting demonstrations which showcased his world leading research and that of the Supernova Group which Chris is part of.
Prize winners received a £25 amazon gift voucher, a certificate and automatically became eligible to apply for an Ogden Trust Undergraduate Science Scholarship, worth £1,500 per annum, should they chose to study a Physics degree at a leading British University.
