Please be aware, if you are planning to visit University libraries over the weekend of 30 – 31 July, there will be a reduced level of service. The planned network outage will affect all networked IT services across the entire University. Service availability will be affected both on and off campus.
On Saturday 30 July 14:00 – 18:00 there will be a full network outage. During these 4 hours there will be no access to networked services in University libraries or workstation areas or off campus. Printing and resources which are accessed via authenticated services will not be available.
All networked services (email, websites, Southampton Virtual Environment, and the Virtual Private Network) will be unavailable during this period, on campus AND off campus. The Library’s circulation system, including self-issue and return will also be out of action, as will WebCat.
After the 4 hour full network outage, from Saturday 30 July 18:00 onwards, services will remain at risk for the rest of the day, and throughout Sunday 31 July. Although the network and all services should work as usual, because complex work will be underway, there may still be occasional short network disruption over this period.
Some services will be restricted:
* Access to Hartley Library study spaces will be as normal
* Books may be returned, but there will be no online user services, no holds, no renewals, no inter-site loans
* No holds can be serviced during the outage period, there will be restricted access to returned stock
The Hartley Library (09:00 – 21:00) and the Health Services Library, Southampton General Hospital (Saturday, 09:00 – 17:00; Sunday, 10:00 – 18:00) will be open over the weekend.
We apologise for any inconvenience during this important work which is to install a new fibre optic network and to enhance other IT network provision across the University.
