Nicola’s citation included the wording:

The success of Medicine’s Mentoring Scheme is largely due to Nicola’s commitment and energy. The scheme was originally set up to support post-docs and is now accessible by all staff and is recognised as having made a highly significant contribution to the Faculty’s successful application for an Athena SWAN Silver Award.

Nicola ‘champions’ mentoring. She co-ordinates the scheme and gives a great deal of her time to ensure that mentors and mentees benefit from high quality, meaningful mentoring conversations that enhance their potential and grow our organisation’s capability. Outside of Medicine, Nicola has given extensively of her time to support mentoring across the University, working with the Institute for Learning Innovation and Development (ILIaD) as a Mentoring Associate.

Commenting on the award Nicola said:

“I am passionate about mentoring as I can see it makes a real difference to our staff and students, so to have my mentoring efforts recognised by a Vice-Chancellor’s quality award is amazing. It has been a privilege to be able to contribute towards the quality of the University by developing our mentoring scheme in the Faculty of Medicine.”
