UniForum, a Programme which benchmarks our Professional Services against other universities, starts a process of collecting information about staff activity this week.
At the recent programme launch Ian Dunn explained:
“The UniForum benchmarking programme will be an invaluable tool for collecting information about how we run a complex organisation like the University. Understanding how we manage activities, compared to similar organisations, enables us to look at how we allocate our resources and support the University strategy.
“Benchmarking is, in essence, a self-assessment tool, focused on delivering best practice. By comparing ourselves with Russell Group universities, amongst others, we don’t necessarily have to reinvent the wheel. If there are things happening out there which are really world-class then I would like us to be able to bring them into the University as quickly as possible.
“The UniForum Benchmarking Programme will help us to look at our own activities, compare them and provide us with new insight into how we choose to run the University of Southampton.”
In order to carry out the benchmarking exercise, nominated managers named ‘Respondents’ have been asked to input the number of hours members of their team have spent on certain activities over the last 12 months.
