Sam Hodges, Director of Nuffield Theatre, has announced the cast for new production: DEDICATION – Shakespeare and Southampton.
With the nature of their relationship under scrutiny, the debated connections between William Shakespeare (played by Tom McKay) and patron Henry Wriothesley, the 3rd Earl of Southampton (played by Tom Rhys-Harries) are explored before the audience.
What exactly was Southampton to Shakespeare? Patron? Collaborator? Employer? Voyeur? Lover?
The evidence: Tender poems. Financial dependency. Attempted revolution. A charge of treason.
Previews will take place from 9 September until the production’s official opening night on 20 September. DEDICATION will run until 8 October.
Curious to scrutinise the potential connections between Shakespeare and the Earl? Tickets can be booked online, or alternatively, you can call Nuffield on Tel: +44(0)23 8067 1771.
Student tickets are available for £8.00.
