The University’s Research Roadshow has completed its seventh year, bringing University of Southampton research to life for thousands of people at local and national events since February.
The roadshow has been busier than ever this year, with over 100 University staff and students explaining a wide range of Southampton research across 35 days away from Southampton, in Brighton, Cheltenham, Glastonbury, Winchester and elsewhere.
The roadshow concluded its 2016 tour by providing a science tent at the inaugural BBC Countryfile Live in Blenheim Palace from 4 – 7 August. The team have made a short film summarising the event.
The Roadshow is keen to hear from researchers who may be interested in contributing to the 2017 tour, or want to gain experience as a research communicator. You can contact [email protected]
Engaging the public with research is now recognised, not least by the research councils, as an important activity for all researchers. It can improve the quality of the research, stimulate new ideas, create connections, and satisfy the community’s curiosity about what researchers do. The Roadshow is the University’s flagship method for researchers to engage the public. For inspiration on other methods of engagement, please visit southampton.likn.co/per
