Activity is now underway at the site of the University’s new teaching and learning centre, which is due to open in 2019. Works to reconfigure car parking on Salisbury Road are now drawing to a close and the Visitors’ Car Park has successfully transferred to a section of the Gower car park, as shown on this map.
The next phase of work is now in motion as the contractors prepare to demolish Building 58a and prepare the development site for the new building.
Works taking place in week commencing 5 September include:
- Excavation between Buildings 2 and 58, being carried out by a small digger and tipper. This is to make way for new landscaping in the vicinity of the new building.
- Removal of non-reusable furniture and internal decorations from Building 58a.
- Continuation of service diversions along Salisbury Road. Temporary traffic lights are now in place, with the road narrowed to one carriageway.
- Demolition plant will arrive on site towards the end of this week
On Monday 12 September the contractors will start to demolish Building 58a. This will begin with the removal of the roof, which will be dismantled in sections. The main structure will then be knocked down and the area dampened to reduce dust.
In total the demolition process is scheduled to take three weeks. You may notice increased noise levels as a result of these works.
We apologise for any disruption caused during this process. Please be assured we are working closely with Heads of Faculty Operations to ensure the campus can continue to operate effectively throughout this project.
