Faculty of Medicine researchers, David Cleary, Becky Brown and Michael Head, recently spent a day teaching at a week-long biomedical science Jersey Summer School.
The three researchers themed their day around microbiology and infectious disease, and included a practical about antibiotic resistance, talks on the human microbiome, resistance and vaccination.
They also covered careers, illustrated through their own academic progress via very different backgrounds, a phylogenetics exercise and the day was finished off with ‘The Big Fat Microbiology Pub Quiz.’
“The teaching was a lot of fun and a great success” said Michael Head, Senior Research Fellow. “The students were engaged from start to finish, and we received excellent feedback from the organising tutor about our day. Hopefully now we’ve given them a taste of careers in our sector, we’ll see them applying for jobs with us in years to come!”
