Organised by Professor Carol Evans of the Southampton Education School, Executive Board member and Vice President UK of the IFNTF, the event brought together National Teaching Fellows (NTFs), Principal Fellows and colleagues from organisations such as the Staff and Educational Development Association (SEDA) and the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE), amongst others. Together, they explored how NTFs in Canada, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, and the USA can work together to enhance learning and teaching excellence around the world.

The Baroness Fritchie, Former Pro-Chancellor of the University hosted the event, which had a strong Southampton contingent in attendance. Professor Evans was joined by two other Southampton NTFs: Professor Simon Kemp and Professor Mike Wald, as well as colleagues including Bridget Wilkinson, Cristina Azaola, Maria Kaparou and Janice Griffifths. Our Education PhD students were represented by Nic Fair, Xiaotong Zhu, Elizabeth Hernandez Lopez and Abdul Almanthari. Elizabeth and Abdul are also the first UK student ambassadors for the IFNTF.

Reflecting on the event, Professor Evans commented:

“I am proud that the University of Southampton has played such a critical role in launching and supporting the International Federation of National Teaching Fellows. This globally important grouping will connect the most innovative teaching academics and students in higher education from around the world, and it is wonderful that Southampton is at the heart of this network.  Our first International IFNTF summit will be held in February 2017.

“I would like to thank Professor Sir Christopher Snowden and Vice President (Education) Professor Alex Neill for their support.  I would also especially like to thank Professor Jane Falkingham, my Dean, for her faith in, and support of the IFNTF initiative at such a critical time; it has meant the world to me and I feel privileged to be able to work with Jane and colleagues at Southampton.”
