Southampton placed 121 in Times Higher Education World Rankings

The University of Southampton is ranked joint 121 in this year’s Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings for 2016-17.

theThis year’s top 980 universities ranked by the THE – from more than 20,000 higher education institutions around the world – come from 79 different countries. Amongst UK universities in the rankings, Southampton is placed 16 out of 91 institutions.

Southampton’s ranking reflects its performance in the ‘pillars’ used by the THE to generate its list. The University’s strongest pillar is for International Outlook with a score of 90.2 – more than double the sector median score of 43.5. Southampton also scored well for citations at 82.8, some 43.5 points above the sector median with scores for Teaching and Research also above the median.

Just over two weeks ago, the 2016 QS World University Rankings placed Southampton 87 out of 916 universities which made the rankings, and thousands more which were assessed. Compiled by Quacquarelli Symonds, the ranking also placed Southampton 17 out of 73 UK universities to make the table.
